In fact, and based on the questions articulated above, it's a wonder why anyone would choose to drink in an abusive manner. Stated differently, with the host of employment dilemmas, legal proceedings, relationship problems, health difficulties, and financial issues that are correlated with chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, why would any person with a good sense of logic want to drink in an abusive manner? If truth be told when some of the above topics are put under the microscope more closely, careless drinking becomes more illogical and makes even less sense. Wouldn't you think that alcoholics would be able to see some of the alcoholism symptoms that they manifest? In a similar way, doesn't it seem reasonable to think that more chronic alcohol abusers would be able to perceive some of the alcoholism signs that they exhibit? Not only this but wouldn't you think that people who are dependent on alcohol would try to learn more about their alcoholic symptoms by researching various alcohol related facts, information, and statistics? After reviewing the alcohol abuse and alcoholism research literature, the point is so critical that it needs to be repeated: With all of the dangerous and debilitating consequences that are directly or indirectly associated with repetitive and continuous alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, why would any individual want to engage in excessive and abusive drinking? What can be done about the pervasive nature of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction in our country? First, society needs to get the message to more people about the unhealthy and debilitating effects of abusive drinking. Second, people who are alcohol addicts or alcohol abusers need to look look at themselves honestly and ask why they are not getting the professional alcohol rehabilitation they need. Third, our students need more meaningful and more relevant preventative and educational methods and approaches so that more students at all grade levels, including those at college, are "reached". And fourth, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life instead of gravitating to the "instant gratification" and the "quick fix" of a drug or alcohol abuse "buzz" or "high". There's room for hope and optimism if people can start drinking in moderation and those who engage in hazardous drinking can become persuaded to get the alcohol treatment they require. Indeed, why put your loved ones through pain, turmoil, and suffering because of your abusive drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking responsibly or even refraining from drinking if you cannot control your drinking?
